Saudi Wealth Fund Weighs EA and Savvy Games Merger

Source: Reuters

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund is considering a potential merger between Electronic Arts and its gaming arm, Savvy Games Group, according to a Bloomberg News report cited by Reuters. The move aims to consolidate the kingdom's major gaming assets into a single operating entity following PIF's recent $55 billion take-private buyout of EA.

The combined entity would unify EA's franchises, including EA Sports FC, Battlefield, and The Sims, with Savvy's holdings, such as Scopely's mobile portfolio. People familiar with the matter stated that discussions remain preliminary and no final decision has been reached. Any transaction is unlikely to proceed until Savvy finalises its pending $6 billion purchase of mobile publisher Moonton. EA, Savvy Games, and the PIF declined to comment on the report.

PIF has spent several years building a Saudi gaming footprint through Savvy, including stakes in esports and major acquisitions such as Scopely. Folding EA into that structure would create one of the largest publisher portfolios in the industry, spanning console, PC, and mobile at a moment when consolidation and regulatory scrutiny are both intensifying.

Deliberations are ongoing, and any formal merger proposal would require regulatory and antitrust scrutiny across multiple jurisdictions before proceeding.
